Grand Hotel finale ratings: Do they help, hurt season 2 renewal odds?
Let’s start with the 18-49 demographic — Monday’s new episode generated a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is about even with the numbers for the past few weeks of the show. In terms of total viewers, however, the primetime soap generated around 2.17 million viewers — its lowest total audience so far.
What happened there? We think that it’s really a function of the return of NFL football, which often does tend to command a lot of live viewers. Given that last night was the finale, we’re still fairly confident that we could see some of these numbers come back a little bit after the fact. As a matter of fact, we’d be surprised and/or disappointed in the event that this doesn’t happen.
Now that the finale is over, though, the next order of business comes via seeing just what ABC wants to do when it comes to determining the show’s future. We want to remain cautiously optimistic that we’ll see the series come back for more; yet, we recognize that there is no guarantee of that. ABC has not been particularly kind when it comes to renewing some of their summer shows over the years and we could easily envision a scenario in which Grand Hotel ends up going the way of the dodo. One way or another, we should know within the next few months.
Let’s make one thing clear, though — there’s no shortage of great storylines that ABC could throw out there for a Grand Hotel season 2. So long as the folks over at the network are interested in doing more of the show, we’re sure that the people involved will figure out a way in order to make it happen.
