The Resident season 3 spoilers: David Alan Grier cast as AJ’s father!

The Resident season 3 is going to serve as an opportunity to get to know some of these characters better, and today, that means getting a chance to know more about AJ!

According to a report from TVLine, David Alan Grier (fresh off of his role on The Cool Kids) is going to be staying at Fox with a role on the medical drama. His character is named Lamar, and the character description claims that he is a “larger-than-life businessman with a prideful manner and substantial ego — not unlike the son he gave up for adoption 35 years ago. But after he’s diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, Lamar is desperate to reconnect with AJ, hoping to find a love and connection that he lacks with the children he raised.”

Is AJ (otherwise known as The Raptor) going to be receptive to having his not-so-dear-old-dad show up? One of the things that we’ve come to know about this guy is that vulnerability is not exactly his specialty. This is a man who cares mostly about being an exceptional god-like doctor and would rather push a lot of his feelings to the side. Why do that? It’s probably in part to mask some of his pain.

If there is some good news that comes with the timing of Lamar’s arrival in AJ’s life, it is the oh-so-simple fact that he is surrounded by people who are going to be more than supportive of him. To go along with that, these are people with plenty of issues with their fathers, as well. We got a good taste of the dysfunction of Conrad and Marshall the past couple of years, whereas season 2 gave us a good dose of Corbin Bernsen as Nic’s father. Whether or not he survives the aftermath of the transplant is one of the big cliffhangers entering season 3 … and that could cause Nic to have a very specific perspective on what’s going on with AJ.
