Riverdale season 4 spoilers: How Luke Perry tribute episode will stand out
So how are they going to do that? Without any spoilers, it seems as though one way is by trying to make it so that few other stories populate the hour. Speaking via TVLine, executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa notes that this is “very much a standalone episode,” one that isn’t going to focus too much directly on stuff from season 3. As a matter of fact, there won’t be a “previously on” recap at the start of it — a sign that you may not need to catch up on any stories before it gets into the hour airing.
Aguirre-Sacasa confirmed to the publication that after watching the completed installment, the producers decided that it “really [didn’t] need” that sort of added element to the start of the episode. Meanwhile, he also made it clear that the creative team “also wanted a little bit of extra time, so we took out the ‘previously on’… We wanted to let the episode breathe a little.” That gives them a chance to focus more on some of the elements of the story that matter most to them.
Eventually, the story is going to move forward for Riverdale beyond the events of this episode, and we are very much intrigued to see what some of that will look like. There could be some cool mysteries and things for the writers to play around with an explore but, for now, this installment marks a chance to pay proper tribute to someone beloved by much of the cast and crew.
