‘Supernatural’ season 8 spoilers: Misha Collins on Cas’ ‘motivation’

Who wants to see a redemption story on the second half of “Supernatural” this year? Based on what Misha Collins is saying now, it does feel as though we are going to have one courtesy of Castiel, who (spoiler alert) is going to eventually find his way back to the real world despite Dean’s uncertainty about whether or not he lived to see another day in purgatory.

The angel’s history has been pretty well-documented on the show the past few years, and his lows (plus a death mixed in there) have been just about as dramatic as his highs. With all of this in mind, Collins tells Entertainment Weekly that when Castiel finally gets yet another chance to actually make something of himself in this world, he is going to more than take advantage of it:

“He essentially feels like he has to do good in order to right the wrongs of his past. So he starts to collaborate with Sam and Dean for that reason — so that he can continue to try to make things right. He’s no longer paying penance, really, because it’s no longer an act of suffering for him. But he’s doing his best to right the wrongs of his past.”

Collins also said that it will be around episode 7 that you really start to find out some more information about what happened to his character in purgatory, and what exactly it was that caused Dean to be so ambivalent when it came to what really happened to him. Thankfully, that’s only a few episodes away at this point!
