Outlander season 5 filming update: How far along are things?

Outlander season 4

We know that it’s hard sometimes to get a good sense as to where Outlander season 5 filming is during production. It’s not as though there are many situations where the cast and crew are able to talk about things, and in general, we would argue that this has been the quietest filming period that we’ve seen over the years.

So just how far into production are we? There isn’t anything insofar as a specific date at the moment, but in a post on Instagram last week, show executive producer Matthew B. Roberts confirmed that they were “more than halfway” done with filming. That makes a good bit of sense when you consider the current timeline. Production on the season started back in April, and we’ve speculated for a while that filming is likely going to run until we get around to right before the holiday season. This would make everything right on schedule.

With this timeframe in mind, it also feels like production on season 5 will be very much still going on at the time that the New York Comic-Con panel happens and that whoever attends will be coming over on a break in filming. Remember that in the past, it’s taken around nine months to film a season from start to finish. Given that season 5 is 12 episodes and that filming may be a little more streamlined with a larger cast, it’s fair to think that we could see filming wrap after about eight months this time around.

Season 5 is going to premiere on Starz at some point in early 2020 — March is where we think it will likely land, as Starz is likely to finish up airing its final episodes of Power before bringing Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan back to the air. We’ll have more on that subject soon enough.

What do you want to see when Outlander season 5 resumes filming? Be sure to share now in the comments, and remember to stick around for some other news.
