Poldark season 5 episode 7 video: The beginning of the end

Poldark season 5 episode 7 is coming onto BBC One tomorrow, and if we’re being honest, the emotional cup is already running over to a certain degree. It’s going to be hard to say goodbye to some of these characters, whether we are talking about Ross Poldark, Demelza, Morwenna, Dwight Enys, or many others.

It’s also clear that the drama ahead is going to be painful and dramatic. The video below is both beautiful and haunting, as Demelza’s song is played over a lot of difficult, dramatic situations that are overwhelming the mood of Cornwall and beyond. Remember where we were at the end of this past episode — we were seeing Ross be captured and now, he may have to fight for his life. We know already that there are those who are out for vengeance upon him and are eager to cause as much chaos as possible.

Will Ross survive? We’re not too worried about that, mostly because the series is stopping short of the Winston Graham source material and we’ve never felt like the motivation here was to deviate far from some of the information already out there in the story. Instead, we’ve long assumed that the plan here is to focus more on trying to find a way to bring Ross closer to where he is in those final books — maybe years down the line, Aidan Turner and the cast will return in order to play these parts once more. Tomorrow and Monday’s episodes are being thought of as the last two for the series, so we wouldn’t expect anything more beyond them — for now.

So where will the greatest jeopardy lie now that Ned Despard is dead? Think along the lines of Cecily and Geoffrey Charles — their future is in jeopardy, so will they find a way to end up together? We’re also curious about the legacy of Dwight and Caroline, as Sunday’s episode may be one of the most important for Caroline that we’ve seen.
