Chicago Med season 5 spoilers: How will Connor’s story end?

Chicago Med season 5 will have a lot of excitement around its premiere, but also a good bit of sadness. After all, remember that this will be the final episode for Dr. Rhodes! Colin Donnell’s exit from the NBC series was confirmed back in the spring, and we have to admit that we’re relieved to eve have him back at all. It may be a quick form of closure, but it’s absolutely better than the zero closure we originally expected that we were going to receive following the finale.

So what was the process like of filming Connor’s farewell? Speaking via TVLine, Donnell confirmed that shooting his departure “was a long, emotional couple of days. But it was great. I’m glad that we got the chance to wrap up his storyline. I think it’s going to be really cool for the fans.”

Donnell also promised that there would be closure when it comes to the subject of whether or not Ava is responsible for the death of Connor’s father, something that was hinted at as a possibility at the end of season 4. It was after hearing this that we surmised that Connor’s exit would be more than a little sensible were he to leave thinking that Ava was a killer and he needed to start over. Yet, if she’s not responsible in that way, why then leave? He may still think that after losing his father and going through so much in Chicago, it may be good for him to head somewhere else. (Donnell notes that Connor’s story does end on a “bittersweet” note.)

For those wondering, the aforementioned report does note that the hybrid OR established for Connor at the hospital won’t be going anywhere — it’s still going to be of use to the hospital, which isn’t a surprise given that every hospital should be more than just a single employee working there. (Still, it’s hard to imagine Chicago Med thriving immediately without a doctor of Connor’s skill set.)
