Chicago Med season 5 is set to unveil a new character coming up in Dr. Marcel Crockett … but who is he? How will he factor into the world of the hospital drama?
Here’s what we can tell you at the moment. According to Deadline, Agents of SHIELD actor Dominic Rains is set to recur on the upcoming season in the role of this aforementioned doctor, someone who has a particular lifestyle that differs from the rest of the team.
Per the official character description, Marcel Crockett is “Chicago Med’s newest ED doctor who hails from Louisiana. He gambles, drinks and parties all night but hooks himself to an IV drip in the morning to slide into work like a true badass.” We’re not sure that this is how we would describe someone who drinks, parties, and then goes to work to try and save lives … but that’s just us. It feels like “irresponsible” may be a more apt way of describing a doctor that does this, but that’s just us.

Dr. Crockett is going to have a major role to play in the upcoming batch of episodes regardless of his character deficiencies. With Dr. Rhodes (Colin Donnell) and Dr. Bekker (Norma Kuhling) apparently on borrowed time on the series, we’re going to see some other characters take over and command a little bit more of the spotlight. That’s what we anticipate seeing here. This is a hospital that finds itself suddenly short-staffed and it has to find a way to fill some of these cracks in. With that in mind, we’re almost surprised that we haven’t heard more in the way of casting news before now.
Chicago Med season 5 will premiere on NBC this fall, and the truth is that entering the season, another character in Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) is also in some jeopardy after the events of the season 4 finale. There’s clearly still a lot of stuff to watch out for.
