Songland: Katelyn Tarver’s ‘Young’ gets Old Dominion Jeep commercials

Songland

On tonight’s new episode of Songland, the stakes were a little bit than most other ones. Old Dominion were looking for a great song, specifically for a new nationwide Jeep commercial. This will expose the track to millions of people, especially when you consider how many car commercials play during sporting events.

As always, there were four artists who entered Songland hoping to make their dream come true. Within this article, we’re going to prioritize the three who moved on to the final phase of the competition.

Katelyn Tarver, “Young” – She came into Songland performing the song on her own, but the challenge was that the energy was a little too feminine for a song from Old Dominion. It also didn’t sound enough like enough like a band. The instrumentation was changed after the fact and Katelyn brought in a guy to sing lead vocals who could better mimic what it would sound like. The final version was really nice!

Jacobi,e, “Where the Road Ends” – This was a really cool song with an awesome vibe backing it up. Was it right for Old Dominion or Jeep? We’re not sure about that. It had a sleekness to it that felt a little bit in contrast to what we see from the card brand, even in its final version. Yet, the title of the track and the lyrics did harken towards what you would want to see from Jeep as a company.

Jake Scott, “Is This Love” – This felt like a totally new song once we got around to hearing it again. Yet, we gotta say that we liked almost everything that we heard here! There was a wonderful sense of musicality about this — it correlated love and adventure, and the lyric of “life is an invitation” was such a perfect one that we felt like Jeep would salivate over and want to use for some other stuff.

Who ended up getting the gig?

We’re not going to lie –we were totally in favor of “Young.” This was the strongest overall song and we loved the message and how it correlated to the brand. Luckily, everyone on the show agreed! Katelyn got the song “Young” all the way to the finish line.
