Outlander season 5: Mark Barrett responds to casting announcement
In a post on Twitter (see HERE), you can even see some of what Barrett has to say about not only joining the show, but also the welcome that he and his family have received. One of the things that he may be realizing already is that Outlander is one of the most supportive followings out there. Not only will they support you within your current endeavors on the show, but they will applaud you for your efforts elsewhere. Just look at the support for Sam Heughan’s My Peak Challenge, or the congratulations that were thrown Laura Donnelly’s way following her time in The Ferryman. This is a supportive audience full of passionate people.
Now, the question remains as to how Barrett impacts the show. Will he be a friend to Jamie and Claire, or some sort of a foe? Starz is clearly waiting to announce some sort of official casting news until later this year, when they will probably announce several names all at the same exact time. (At the moment, we’re mostly reliant on various casting agencies releasing the news — that is how Barrett’s name came out.)
Season 5 of the series is based off of the Diana Gabaldon book The Fiery Cross, and it is going to be premiering at some point in 2020. There is already a season 6 on tap, so we’ll have to see if Barrett ends up playing a character who has a little bit of staying power. We don’t foresee that Jamie and Claire are going to be interested in moving too far from Fraser’s Ridge, the place that they have called their home since early on in season 4.
