Today, ABC confirmed at their TCA Summer Press Tour event that both of these series are going to be back for additional episodes down the road. Is this a surprise? Hardly. While we know that the latest Bachelor in Paradise season hasn’t even aired just yet, the network knows that they have a reliable franchise here that has a constant evergreen quality about it. Because they cast so many people on a given season, they are always going to have a good chance at finding at least a few great characters. That’s the thing about even this past Bachelorette season with Hannah Brown — while there are a lot of unlikable dudes within that cast, there was also a chance to find someone like Mike Johnson who could be a genuine Bachelor contender. (The title may still end up going to Peter Weber.)

What Paradise brings to the franchise is two-fold. There are a contingent of people out there now who enjoy this show even more than the flagship shows, but it also serves as a great means for ABC to utilize personalities that they found on these other shows. They were desperate for years to find a great way to do this — hence, the original decision to do Bachelor Pad. That show didn’t work because of the heavy emphasis on the cash prize, but they’ve figured it out with Paradise and found a way to deliver something that is entertaining, dramatic, but in the vein of the other shows.
Both of these new seasons are going to come your way in 2020; consider next summer officially booked up.
