The Bachelorette: Peter Weber denies dumping ex to go on show

While the allegations against The Bachelorette alum Peter Weber never made it into last night’s finale, we knew it would be addressed eventually … and now it has been.

In a statement via People Magazine, the pilot (who is considered to be a favorite to become the Bachelor) made it clear that his relationship with model Calee Lutes did not come to a close because of his desire to be on reality TV:

“There was a lot of truth to what she said in her story, but there is also a lot of truth that wasn’t mentioned … The show had absolutely nothing to do with me ending that relationship.”

Lutes had claimed in an interview earlier this month that she believed Peter was going through the process of being on the show at the time in which they were together; however, Peter contends that the timeline was a little different than suggested:

“I was very serious in trying to progress that relationship and move it forward … And she wasn’t on the same page as me. That being said, I wasn’t going to waste her time or my time. But the casting process and my first interview was months after we broke up.”

It’s a classic case of “he said, she said.” We’re not sure that there is ever going to be any more clarity than this so, frustratingly, this may be as far as this story goes and we’re left without any clarity on the whole situation. We don’t know if Calee would have spoken out if she believed that the timelines were separate, and it was noted at the time of the interview that she was not paid for the story. Yet, Peter seems confident that the two timelines didn’t overlap at all. Is it a case where their perception of the relationship is different? Maybe, but what we know is that Peter is looking to move forward and that The Bachelorette as a franchise doesn’t want to spend a lot of time on this story. In not including it in Peter’s on-air interview last night, it ensures that this will not be a big part of the story if Peter is named Bachelor later on.
