Outlander season 5 – 2020 premiere date was always the plan
Well, consider this the smallest bit of confirmation that (at least behind the scenes) everything is going according to plan. In a new post via Twitter, show executive producer Matthew B. Roberts made it clear that the show’s early 2020 premiere date is “right on schedule.” In other words, this isn’t the product of some sort of sudden delay. This is where the show was always bound to end up.
When you look at the scheduling for past seasons, this premiere date makes even more sense. Traditionally, there is a wait of around 14-15 months between seasons of this show, and this time around, we could see something similar. If it’s a couple of months longer than that, it may just be because the cast had a longer break than usual between seasons.
With Roberts’ message in mind, we’re happy that we can at least put some speculation in the rear-view mirror. It doesn’t appear as though Outlander was pushed back because of scheduling, or that there have been some behind-the-scenes issues that have slowed things down. This is where it was always meant to be and we’re excited to dive into it over the next few months.
For now, the wait remains long. The cast still has months of production to go on the 12-episode season, which is based on the Diana Gabaldon book The Fiery Cross. This is a season that takes you up to the American Revolution and focuses on Jamie and Claire hoping to build more of their home at Fraser’s Ridge — while also determining what they want to do when it comes to the status of Murtagh and Jamie’s orders to hunt down the Regulators. Without the British, he wouldn’t have Fraser’s Ridge … but that doesn’t mean that he wants to work with them either.
What are you most excited for with Outlander season 5?
