Better Call Saul season 5: Giancarlo Esposito hints at surprise

Better Call Saul season 5

Earlier today, the Primetime Emmy Awards unleashed all sorts of excellent news in regards to Better Call Saul. Yet, for some who don’t care about award shows, the we recognize that the most exciting news may come in the form of the fact that a season 5 is coming in the new year!!! The timeline is inching ever closer to that of the flagship Breaking Bad and because of that, we’re left to wonder if there are any more surprises that the writers can throw our way?

As it turns out, there may be a few of them lurking underneath the surface — at least if you look towards Giancarlo Esposito for some scoop. Fresh off of him scoring an Emmy nomination this morning for playing the iconic Gus Fring, the actor passed along the following in a new interview with Deadline:

“It’s not going to be what you think. That’s what I can say. It’s never what you think, and to me, that makes a television show … So, all I can say is, be prepared to be surprised.”

Well, isn’t that a curious thing to say when setting up a new season of television? We like to think that it is and it is the sort of thing that leaves us scratching our chin for whatever could be coming up next. It is possible Esposito could be saying this knowing that there is a larger story coming for Future Jimmy a.k.a. Gene. Or, it is possible that he is saying this due more to whatever is going on when it comes to backstory? Maybe there are things to learn about Gus on the upcoming season that we’ve never learned before or his transformation into the Breaking Bad version (who really isn’t that different) plays out in a way we don’t imagine.

Filming on Better Call Saul season 5 is expected to wrap soon, and new episodes are going to premiere when we get around to early 2020.

What do you want to see when it comes to Better Call Saul season 5?
