Grand Hotel episode 5 sneak peek: Behind the blackmail plot
In the sneak peek that CarterMatt has for you below, you can see that this is all about an exchange of money — consider it blackmail for people who don’t really know what they’re doing with blackmail. It’s somewhat of a new experience for them and it’s something that Santiago is working to figure out. Yet, consider this — the money that he’s giving Mateo here is a loan more so than something permanent. He’s expecting the situation to be resolved and then he can get everything he wants back on the other side of the “trade.” Sometimes within the world of blackmail, you need to just put up a front. That’s exactly what we could end up seeing here.
Where things get a little bit juicier comes within the realm of trust. Let’s frame the question this way — how much should Santiago trust that Mateo is going to do what he wants? That’s a good question since we don’t know how much anyone should be trusted within this hotel. He believes that fixing problems is what Mateo is there for, but we’ll see whether or not that pans out to be true.
As for what else we’re going to see over the course of tonight’s episode, think in terms of more relationship drama as well as more questions/clues about Sky’s disappearance. That remains the central, binding thread of Grand Hotel season 1 and we’re not altogether sure that it’s something we’re going to get all that much in the way of answers on until we get a little bit closer to the end of the season. It’s a way to keep viewers watching and then after that, the series can jump in a new direction. There is also that pregnancy storyline, but given the way in which shows play around with time, it feels like there’s less of a guarantee that gets resolved this year.
