American Horror Story: 1984 spoilers: Matthew Morrison on board
So who will he be playing? There are questions aplenty still about that, but Morrison is joining a cast that is starting to come together beautifully. It was already reported that Pose actress Angelica Ross was going to be appearing, as was former cast member Emma Roberts and, rather surprisingly, Olympian Gus Kenworthy. The cast will also include Cody Fern, Leslie Grossman, and Billie Lourd, who have all been a part of the franchise before. Meanwhile, John Carroll Lynch is coming back after previously starring as Twisty the Clown in American Horror Story: Freak Show, becoming one of the most notable villains in the history of the series.
It goes without saying that the 1984 title is a hint towards when the season is going to be set, and some of the other teasers that are out there already allude heavily to some sort of summer-camp theme. Expect an homage to old-school slasher movies and something that is a little bit more grounded than the out-of-this-world American Horror Story: Apocalypse that we had this year. This feels to us like the most small-scale season since the criminally underrated American Horror Story: Roanoke, which to us was one of the most creative seasons of the franchise and one that was successful thanks, in part, to having a scaled-down approach to its storytelling much like season 1 in Murder House.
While Murphy may have a new deal over at Netflix, don’t look at that and just assume that American Horror Story is coming to a close. There’s at least one more season coming after this one, and with this show’s premise and rotating cast, it could go on for many years still. There is no shortage of horror tales to tell.
American Horror Story: 1984 just started filming and we’ll have a chance to see it a little bit later this fall on FX.
