America’s Got Talent: See aerialist Matthew Richardson’s audition (video)
One of the things that is so valuable to learn from him comes via his pre-taped segment, one where he reveals that he only started getting involved in hoop aerialism in his twenties. A lot of times when you see someone like him on television, the immediate assumption you make is “oh, this is someone who’s probably been doing this for the majority of their lives.” That’s not always the case. This entire audition was him taking the bull by the horns and doing what were almost two separate routines in one. There was a part of the routine featuring the hoop in the air and then also a part of it with the hoop on the ground.
While Matthew may be a graphic designer in his day job, there is a chance that he can turn this into a little more of a career from here on out. With aerialists, a lot of being on this show feels like working to get recognition from larger performing groups. It’s hard to do a 90-minute show with just one aerialist, though we have confidence that it can be done. The dream to us would be getting some recognition from a famous performing troupe and getting a chance to be featured in a show, where you can do this act for years on end and get paid real money for what you love.

Is there more that Matthew Richardson needs to do?
Sure, given that we’ve seen hoop aerialist acts on this show before. However, at the same time we’ve seen a ton of singers come on the show and nobody questions whether or not they can sing another song. Matthew needs to just be able to think outside the box, come up with another creative concept, and think of a few different tricks that he didn’t do this time around. If he succeeds in all of this, we believe there’s a chance that he could have a little bit of a future in this field.
