The Bachelorette spoilers: Meet Luke Parker’s family! (video)

Come Monday night’s new episode of The Bachelorette, we’re going to have a chance to see Luke Parker’s family — and we know that there are going to be plenty of questions. For example, does he always have a tendency to be this divisive? Is there tension in his family when he’s around?

Unsurprisingly, Luke’s family in the video below (courtesy of EW) makes it clear that they are as shocked as anyone that there are people who didn’t care for him — especially when Hannah tells them that she didn’t have much of a chance to even get to know him for a lot of the season. For the bulk of the season, she found herself cornered with all of this drama and with people in the house questioning his every turn. Luke admitted that he was “walking on eggshells” the most of the season.

If we were to break down some of the behavior this season, we’d say that the guys are partially responsible for the divisive atmosphere — Luke got the First Impression Rose (we’re not counting what Cam got during After the Final Rose) and after that, he had a target on his back. He could’ve still recovered from that though, and this is where the responsibility falls more on Luke himself. We don’t know why he thought it would be okay to create a me vs. them sort of environment in his conversations with Hannah or do things like be overly competitive in the rugby game. He also never took responsibility for his own actions even when it was obvious that he was in the wrong.

The importance of Luke Parker’s family

For Hannah, they may be able to offer more insight into why he is the way that he is — and they may even humanize him in Hannah’s eyes … for a little while anyway. All of this just feels temporary when you consider what’s coming. ABC has given away in previews already that Luke is eliminated during what looks to be the overnight dates — and it doesn’t end well. This hometown date may explain why he gets to hometown dates, but no metaphorical umbrella is going to save him from the storm that is coming up.
