Yellowstone season 2, Queen Sugar, and Good Trouble (Cable Ratings)

Welcome to another edition of Cable Ratings! It shouldn’t shock anyone that we’ve got a lot of stuff to go over in this latest update, and it begins with a talk about everything going down with Yellowstone season 2.

Given how often shows tend to lose viewership following the premiere, it should be rather exciting for some out there to know this: The numbers were pretty much even! In the 18-49 demographic, Yellowstone drew a 0.5 rating on Wednesday night — even with the premiere. (It actually was up slightly in the demo, but that washes out when your round out the decimal places.)

In total viewers, Yellowstone season 2 episode 2 dropped slightly to 2.2 million — still very solid, and given that there is already a season 3 renewal out there, there is nothing to worry about.

So what about a couple of other cable shows on the air? Let’s spotlight some of them now…

Queen Sugar – Here’s some other news worth a smile — Wednesday’s episode generated a 0.2 rating and 1.08 million viewers. These are the best overall numbers of the season and they give us a little more hope that a season 5 renewal could be coming. While the series is down more than 15% in the demo versus the third season, it’s only down less than 7% in total viewers. Given that this show has incurred some big drops before, this isn’t anywhere near as bad.

Good Trouble – Finally, the second season of the show continued to hold steady on this past episode, generating a 0.1 rating and over 320,000 total viewers. Will that be enough for another season? Possibly. The thing that makes the situation for Freeform these days complicated is that they are relying more on DVR viewership and streaming than ever. If Good Trouble is performing big for them in some of these metrics, that’s enough for them to be excited and give a green light for a season. We’d just argue that they do it for the sake of consistency given that Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists was a disappointment and Cloak & Dagger also incurred some drops in its second season.
