Fear the Walking Dead season 5: Should there be Dwight flashback episode?

Bringing Dwight over to Fear the Walking Dead season 5 is an interesting move for a number of different reasons — with one of the biggest ones being a search for what he’s lost. Through the better part of the years since his exit from The Walking Dead’s own batch of communities, he’s been trying to find Sherry, but to date, there has been no success. He was broken when John Dorie and June discovered him, but it seems as though he is (slowly) being instilled with a new sense of purpose. He is ready to fight again, or at least continue to live his life and try to understand that he can do so in a different one.

Now that we have Dwight in the show’s version of the present, though, there is a separate thing to ask — does this mean that we need to explore more of his past?

The case for this is rather simple: You could introduce some other characters and really get a sense of some of what the character went through out on the road. We know Austin Amelio to be an actor capable of giving us a stellar performance and seeing the deterioration of a desperate Dwight could prove captivating. The way that you make it relevant is that you maybe establish something important from that past that works its way into the present.

Here’s why we are torn about it — technically, whatever happened in Dwight’s past is slightly more irrelevant now that we are in the present. What more is there that the show needs to explore? It’s hard to make THAT much of it matter even if there is something from the past that becomes relevant. The other question relates to if you really want to take a full episode of this show and center it around a character that wasn’t in this world originally — especially when you’ve got Morgan already a part of this show. You have to balance things out a little bit!

We’ll see what the writers decide, as there is plenty of time for them to make some choices through the rest of this season.
