Big Little Lies season 2 episode 4 spoilers: When ripples become waves
HBO took their time releasing their Big Little Lies season 2 episode 4 synopsis — not that this should surprise you given that they are hardly a network that plays by traditional rules. They not only do what they want, but they do it whenever they decide that the timing is right. You can check out the synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below for some other insight:
Celeste (Nicole Kidman) accuses Mary Louise (Meryl Streep) of overstepping boundaries with Jane (Shailene Woodley). Renata (Laura Dern) endures a prying court hearing with Gordon (Jeffrey Nordling). Jane opens up to Corey (Douglas Smith) at Amabella’s (Ivy George) birthday party. Madeline (Reese Witherspoon) continues to try to make things right with Ed (Adam Scott).
What we think this synopsis is representative of is how some of these women are each taking different approaches to the idea for forgetting. How do you move past trauma? Madeline’s priority seems to be focusing on her relationship with Ed and that feels healthy — it’s a way to have someone else to rely on. It’s too bad that Madeline doesn’t always have the best judgment and she makes mistakes; but she is the sort of person with the capacity to recover from some of them.
Meanwhile, with Celeste we just see her on a slow descent into chaos with Mary Louise. She’s trying to protect Jane, which makes some sense given how much Jane is also a part of everything that is going on. The issue here is that if she becomes so fixated on what Mary Louise is doing, she hurts her own ability to try and heal. What she really needs is a vacation from her late husband’s mother, which is largely ironic given that Mary Louise is the one who traveled to Monterey in the first place.
