Are You the One? season 8 video: Meet the new, fluid cast!
For the first time, every single contestant on this season is entering it completely open in terms of their sexuality — they’re all fluid and open to a relationship with any contestant, regardless of their gender identity. This means that there are no limitations and there’s certainly no telling who any contestant will end up with. Creatively, this is exciting — there are so many more possibilities in terms of who everyone could end up with, and it makes the guessing game at the start of the season so much more challenging.
Beyond that, and perhaps most importantly, this season is going to be one all about acceptance. You’re going to have a chance to see people interact in a place where they’re no longer the minority in a group or judged because of who they choose to love. It’s an accepting, open environment where they all have a chance to be themselves. It’s a truly exciting prospect and it’s something that should help normalize bisexuality and pansexuality on a larger level. For viewers out there who haven’t had a chance to be around people with differing sexual orientations before, this serves as an opportunity to learn something new. It’s a chance to get a new perspective and realize that everyone is just a person.
In the sneak peek below, you can get what is a quality introduction for a lot of the different people who you’re going to get a chance to see on this coming season. You also get to hear about some of their stories, which include at times different times where they felt oppressed or excluded. One participant is a former high-school football captain who was scared to reveal his secret; another hadn’t come out to their family yet before coming on the show. There’s a lot that this season is going to bring out about these contestants, and we have a feeling that some of these people are actually going to learn a good bit about themselves in addition to learning about each other.
This season of Are You the One? is premiering Wednesday night at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time — think of it as a great way to close out Pride Month, and a chance to showcase a very different side to what has been a popular show on MTV for some time.
