The Bachelor rankings: Tyler Cameron, Peter Weber, & Mike Johnson

Bachelor

When it comes to determining who is going to be the next star of The Bachelor, there really isn’t any reason to call the field wide open. It’s really not. In our mind, there are three pretty clear contenders and it’s hard to see almost anyone else enter the fray. There aren’t any past alumni we can think of with any major traction — sure, there are always going to be some rooting for more Ben Higgins, but this may not be the year for it.

So who are the three contenders? We’re going to do our best to figure out which direction the show will go in, at least based on some of the story we’ve seen so far and also how producers have chosen leads in the past. Of course, any of these people could still win this season; if that happens, go ahead and rule them out.

3. Mike Johnson – The case for Mike is that he comes across really well, he’s articulate, and he seems to know what he wants and is confident about it — he’d be probably the best lead in terms of self-expression since Nick Viall. Love him or hate him, Nick was pretty clear with who he was and what he wanted most of that season. There is another layer to Mike that excites us in that the show’s never had an African-American man as the lead, and we hope that this wouldn’t be a reason why the show moves away from him. The only negative we could see here is that Mike has been involved in a lot of the Luke P. conflict, and while we side with him on just about everything, ABC may be looking for a lead who has avoided it more.

2. Peter Weber – Pilot Pete has made a pretty positive impression on Hannah Brown this season and also a lot of viewers, and there’s a pretty easy story that you can tell here — a man with a recognizable career wants to be the Bachelor. He’s passionate, smart, and we don’t think he would be your typical lead.

On the flip side, he’s also a pilot and ABC’s already done that with Jake Pavelka. Maybe they’ll see Pete as redemption following Jake’s season, or maybe they’ll look for something that has a little bit of an overall different feel to it.

1. Tyler Cameron – Is Tyler the most popular Bachelorette contestant in years? It feels that way. We’re not sure that there’s been someone who has been so loved by much of the audience since Ben Higgins the first time around and he’s got a little bit of everything you’d want in a lead — passion, a clear point of view, and a sense of humor. If Tyler wants the gig and he doesn’t end up winning the season, we don’t think there’s a universe where ABC passes him up.
