Fear the Walking Dead season 5: Austin Amelio sets up Dwight’s journey
Don’t get us wrong, as we do continue to think that Dwight’s search for his wife will remain center stage through however long he is a part of this show. It’s just not going to be the only part of the story. Speaking via The Insider, Austin Amelio sets up some of what is going to coming up next:
“Well, there’s a couple other scenes that pop up for Dwight later in the season and obviously, you’re not going to see Dwight playing the same notes throughout the whole season … There’s going to be some other things that he starts fighting for and really starts paying attention to. And that’s going to be really pivotal for his journey and his character arc.”

As this season goes along, we’ll get a better sense as to some of what these notes really are. We don’t know if he is going to get fully on board with the plan to start helping random people, but maybe he will start to integrate himself more in a group. Maybe he will start to feel a greater sense of peace within himself. We’ve felt all along that if his entire life and future is based on Sherry, that’s not a healthy way to be. There has to be some sort of middle ground and there needs to be a different horizon for him.
Dwight hasn’t been a good person, but the truth is, he’s still alive. He almost owes it to some of the good people who died to try to justify why he still deserves to be around. It’s about something so much bigger than just one single person — if he can make these challenges, then Sherry could run to him with open arms if she is alive and they could have an actual future. It’s not so much a mirage that he keeps seeing far in the horizon. It’s real and tangible and potentially beautiful.
