Songland video: Able Heart sings ‘Greenlight’ for Jonas Brothers

Tuesday night’s Songland is arguably going to be one of the season’s most exciting episodes. Think about the Jonas Brothers as being one of the reasons why. The trio is going to be a big part of the show this week, and based on the sneak peek that CarterMatt has for you below, they have one incredibly-talented guy at their disposal in Able Heart.

Without even talking about his music, Able comes across as a pretty unique person. He’s not someone with a lot of experience performing, as he prefers to spend most of his time behind the scenes. He’s done a lot of ghostwriting and production work for other people, so he hasn’t even gotten public credit for a lot of his achievements. Yet, he’s a guy who can sing, songwrite, produce, and engineer. He’s basically a one-man recording studio and the song that he has for Nick, Joe, and Kevin Jonas is pretty fantastic.

What we’re hearing in “Greenlight” is a catchy hook, a song with a lot of passion, and also one that feels incredibly current for the music scene in 2019. It has a lot of rock and hip-hop vibes and it’s something we could see the Jonas Brothers bringing on an artist to feature on it.

What makes this sneak peek so special

It’s another reminder of just how fun the jamming/collaborating process can be. Nick really seems to be the Jonas Brother who takes the lead in coming up with various ideas as to how the song can be even better and fit with his own sound, and just seeing him work for a few minutes in here is really infectious. He and Able seem to have a good back and forth and while we can’t say for sure that he’s going to win this episode, we do wonder if he could work them down the road. We’re psyched to hear what the finished version of “Greenlight” sounds like when we get to the end of the episode.

This is one of the interesting question marks that we have with Songland — what sort of careers these songwriters are going to have after the fact? Even if they don’t work with the artist in question, could another star welcome them in with open arms? It feels like it’s possible — maybe this show gives some of them a different outlook on the songwriting industry than anything that they had previously.
