America’s Got Talent video: The Dominguez Poodles try to impress
The story of the family behind the act is endearing in its own way. The Dominguez family basically travels around the country in their RV, performing shows with their family of poodles. As you would imagine, this is a tricky life — going from city to city, performing at various fairgrounds and other venues, and also living within very close quarters much of the time. Doing really well on AGT would mean the family having a chance to settle — and maybe also have some people come to see them rather than the other way around.

The obvious comparison you are going to make between the Dominguez Poodles and some of who we’ve seen before is the Olate Dogs, former show champions and a dog act like no other. Both acts have boundless energy among their dogs and perform a really exciting show packed with content. We can’t say that there’s anything about these poodles that we haven’t seen before in other acts, but the dogs are well-trained and they seem to enjoy what they are doing. What’s also fun is the way that the kids seem to be involved in the act — it feels like they’re having as much fun as anyone!
We don’t need to spend a whole lot of time debating the worthiness of this act — so long as nothing goes terribly wrong in the middle round (a.k.a. Judge Cuts), they’re going to be in the live shows. America loves dogs and, more importantly from a judging point of view, Simon Cowell loves dog acts. He’s one of the reasons why Sara & Hero made it as far as they did during their go-around on the show. Moving forward, the top thing that these Poodles have to focus on is delivering a show that looks and feels different — think different tricks, but also a larger theme that involves more of the dogs being involved at the same time. This was almost a little showcase of some of the individual abilities. Now comes the time to see how they all shine as a group.
The fact that we’re complimentary of this group is even more notable just because of this — we love dogs (our dog Coco Chanel Vanderwoof rules our home), but we’re not the biggest poodle fan in general.
