Why is it taking so long for us to have an official Poldark season 5 premiere date? If you’re someone in the UK, you’re probably wondering that. Even though there’s already been an official screening for the premiere (thanks to the fine folks of the BFI for that), viewers are still waiting for some sort of answers as to when it’s on BBC One.
As a matter of fact, even a few days ago the show’s official Twitter denied having any knowledge of the premiere date. That’s a little bit crazy, given the fact that it’s probably coming up soon — and they would certainly know before anyone.
Yet, when you think about it, is it really that crazy at all? Here’s the thing about British shows and premiere dates. Often, they’re released fairly quickly right before a given show starts. Networks like BBC One and ITV don’t like to shout their premiere dates from the mountaintops long in advance; as a matter of fact, sometimes it’s just a week or two before the show comes on the air. It doesn’t exactly give you a lot of time to prepare, but it is probably effective as a last-minute way to hype people up. It gets them excited, and it certainly helps to make sure sure that viewers don’t forget is on. It doesn’t give you any time to do so!
All signs do indicate that Poldark season 5 is probably coming this summer. It’s hard to imagine otherwise. Why would you have screenings, only to then not put the show on the air for many more months? If we had to guess, we’d lean right now towards the season five starting in either the end of this month or the beginning of July. There’s still enough time in there to make an announcement, and there’s still plenty of opportunities for the network to dish out some good stuff.

Here’s another crazy fact: We still don’t really have a proper trailer for Poldark season 5. Hopefully, whenever the BBC does go ahead and decide to put the date out there, they add some video to go along with it. There is a little bit of mystery to this final season, as it’s hard to say where Debbie Horsfield and the rest of the creative team will take Ross, Demelza, and the rest of the characters. There are certainly more stories from the books to be told, but we’re not getting to all of them right now. That’s why it seems like there’s still some openness in more of the show later — read more over here.
