The Masked Singer season 2 will have more contestants

The Masked Singer

As we approach The Masked Singer season 2 airing on Fox this fall, one thing feels even more clear than it was months ago: The network is going all-in to make this show as big as humanly possible. it’s already going to have one of their top time slots, and apparently, it’s also going to have more contestants than ever before.

In a new interview with Extra (see the bottom of this article), the show’s judges confirm that season 2 is going to have in total 16 contestants, up from the 12 who took part in season 1. What does this mean? Well, beyond there just being more fun people to see on stage, it means that we may have either more episodes or just more content for every given episode. Either way, it’s certainly welcome that we can have a few more people up on the stage. It helps to ensure that the episodes are a little bit more jam-packed, which is nice given that one of the big criticisms of season one is that sometimes, you had a full hour with only four or five performances jammed in there.

Of course, we don’t think that Fox had any real problem casting people for this upcoming season. Given how enormously popular the first season was, plus just the new familiarity that is out there with the concept, everyone’s going to want to be on board to don one of these masks. It’s a little bit different than before season 1, where some of these various participants were taking more of a gamble. They didn’t know the format, and they didn’t know whether or not they were going to be ridiculed. The Masked Singer turned out to just be a very positive, fun show that allowed people to show off a hidden talent. There really isn’t that much of a downside to doing it — at least a long as you’re okay with wearing a very sweaty costume for a long period time. (Some were worse than others — T-Pain’s Monster outfit was apparently very sweaty since his full body was basically covered.

The one thing that we do hope is that with the show’s popularity, they are still able to find a way to keep the identity of the performers under wraps. That’s going to be one of the big challenges now because more and more people are going to be looking for it. There are paparazzi out there in the world who, unfortunately, are going to make it their business to uncover singers before the show does … so let’s hope if there are spoilers that they’re kept to certain dark corners of the internet.
