Jessica Jones season 3 trailer analysis: Jessica, Trish, & a Foolkiller

Jessica Jones season 2

It’s not going to be too long at all until you see Jessica Jones season 3 on Netflix. Just how long are we talking about here? Just think in terms of eight days’ time. June 14 is the launch date for what is going to be the final season of the show, and as you eagerly await it, you may as well go ahead and check out the new trailer.

This trailer, which you can watch over here, features Jessica facing off against someone who may be one of the most dangerous villains she’s taken on yet. He is named as presented within the trailer as Gregory Salinger, but we better know him by his comic book alter ego Foolkiller. Over the course of this season, you’re going to see this man do whatever he can to seemingly destroy Jessica from within. It’s not doing the same sort of thing that other villains have to her in the past, but one of his most effective skills seems to be messing with her identity. He seems fine to berate her and tell her that she’s gotten all of the chances in the world, and she’s had so many different things go her way. It’s clearly a psychological thing for him given that Jessica obviously hasn’t had all that perfect of a life.

In the end, Salinger thinks that Jessica’s wrecked much of her life … or at least that’s the message that he’s getting across to her. This is a pretty bad dude and it’s going to be interesting to see how Jessica takes someone like him on throughout the course of the season.

After watching this, it does at least feel like Jessica Jones as a Series has really orchestrated their marketing campaign pretty well. A lot of the things that Salinger is doing to Jessica have been hyped in a lot of the promotional material it is out there — including all of the references to her as a fraud. To go along with what is happening with Jessica, you also see in this trailer a good bit of Trish working to become Hellcat and figure out what she wants her future and her legacy to be. Clearly, you see her and Jessica have their differences of opinion in terms of how they should be out fighting crime and contributing to the city’s overall health. Good for them for wanting to do something, but at the same time, they got to focus on helping themselves before they can help anybody else. They may need plenty of self-help before this is over.

Why is Jessica Jones canceled?

A big part of that has simply to do with what’s been going on with Netflix and Marvel. We know that Marvel and Disney are going to have a lot of collaborations coming up on the Disney+ streaming service, but that’s not going to change how a lot of people feel in terms of losing Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. That’s still a difficult pill to swallow, and it’s not going to be any easier over the coming months even if Disney+ has some cool stuff. Let’s not delude ourselves here.
