Is Chicago Med new tonight on NBC? Season 5 expectations

Chicago Med

Is Chicago Med new tonight on NBC? After this past cliffhanger, we certainly wish that it was. Heck, we wish there were a couple more episodes just to address the obvious elephant in the room: The status of Connor Rhodes and also Ava Bekker.

Interested in some other Chicago Med updates now in video form? Then take a look at some of what we’ve got about the finale at the bottom of this article! Once you do that, subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube for more information … and why not also view our official One Chicago playlist? It’s the best way to check out some more updates you don’t want to miss.

If you’re an avid Chicago Med viewer, odds are that you’ve heard the news already — both Colin Donnell and Norma Kuhling are departing the series. The news was confirmed prior to the finale airing … but then the finale actually did next to nothing in order to address these departures. Instead, it just dangled all of these questions out in the air and left us to ponder just where things will be going with these characters from here.

Based on our personal read on things, we’re actually not sure the producers knew that the characters would be leaving the show at the time the finale was written, and there was a notable lack of interviews/postmortems featuring all showrunners from the One Chicago family following the finale. There may have been moving parts up to the last minute, and that could be causing a little bit of a panicked situation for viewers hoping that there is some element of closing coming.

More so than devising any one other storyline or event in the Chicago Med premiere, the top priority, bar none, has to be letting us know if Natalie is okay. (Wasn’t that cliffhanger crazy? We haven’t heard anything about Torrey DeVitto leaving the show, so there is that.) Beyond that, the next priority is making sure that there is an element of closure to what is happening with Connor and Ava. Based on the events of the finale, the easiest of theories we can devise is that Connor decides that being in Chicago isn’t for him after losing his father, and after learning that Ava, a woman he was once was romantically, may be the person responsible for it. It’s pretty easy to want to move on after this, no? Meanwhile, it’s hard to imagine that Ava, if guilty, goes anywhere other than prison. It’s not like Cornelius was a good man or a good father, but he was still a human being that Ava apparently did something to … if we’re reading what happened right.

There’s a reasonable shot that we’ll be hearing a thing or two more about Connor and Ava’s fate, and how producers choose to wrap up their stories, later this summer. If we could cross our fingers for something, it’d be for Donnell and Kuhling to turn up one more time as these characters, similar to what happened at the start of this past season with Rachel DiPillo. Give us some closure and, provided Natalie lives, we can breathe in and proceed to the rest of the show.

Unfortunately, Chicago Med isn’t going to be back on the air for some time. Based on the journey of the series so far, more than likely like we’ll see it back in late September. There’s no real reason for NBC to divert from their plan.

While you wait for more Chicago Med…
