Better Call Saul – Emmy campaign offers up some voicemail fun

Better Call Saul season 4

While it’s often hard to gauge the specific accuracy for a lot of Emmy campaigns, we do at least appreciate it when networks come out and have a lot of fun with some of their campaigns. If nothing else, it gets them press for something other than the mere fact that they’re promoting one of their shows.

Hence, what AMC is doing at the moment in promotion of Better Call Saul. We don’t have to tell you that the series is worthy of some Emmys — Bob Odenkirk’s been outstanding for some time, and to go along with that Rhea Seehorn may be one of the most underrated performers in the entire industry. we feel like, sometimes, the show’s penalized because Breaking Bad was so good — we actually think that through and through, Better Call Saul may actually have the stronger and more cohesive narrative. It just doesn’t have the same immediately-recognizable or iconic moments that drove people to the original. Also, prequels and spin-offs rarely fare as well as the original in terms of awards recognition.

So what is AMC doing at the moment in order to prepare for the 2019 Emmys? Well, they’re creating a series of voicemail messages featuring their cast that are as fun and interactive as humanly possible. All you have to do is call 855-662-7285, and then check out a lot of different messages featuring various core characters. It varies depending on when you call — we just had a chance to hear a message from Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito), where he makes it clear that Los Pollos Hermanos will cater your Emmy party.

Obviously, this is all silly and inconsequential, but we like that it’s interactive — plus, AMC knows that this is the sort of thing that people will actually want to call to hear the messages for themselves. This isn’t the first time that the network has done some sort of phone campaign featuring one of their characters — they’ve done it with Jimmy/Saul Goodman in the past — but it always works at bringing a smile to our face.

Also, we just appreciate getting something fun that is Better Call Saul related to think about right now, given that the new season is set to begin airing at some point in 2020 — that’s a LONG period of time away, so we really just gotta enjoy every update now however much we possibly can.
