For the sake of this Better Call Saul article, let’s go ahead and talk renewals … even though we already know that we’ve got a season 5. Is it too early to start crossing our fingers and hoping for a season 6?
At the moment, there is already a lot of conversation out there about season 6, with a lot of stemming from none other than Gus Fring himself in Giancarlo Esposito. In a recent interview, the actor noted that the series could very well end with season 6 — this hasn’t been confirmed as of yet via AMC, but it feels like a foregone conclusion. It’s because of this that we’re just wondering the following — why not go ahead and make the announcement? While not get the good news out there a little sooner rather than later?

The obvious appeal in announcing a season 6 renewal early is simple: You are showing a lot of commitment to the fans. At this point, it should feel rather clear to just about everyone out there that season 5 isn’t the final one — or, at least it’s not being planned that way. Knowing the affection that AMC has for this show, coupled with their desire to make sure the Breaking Bad franchise is absolutely pristine, they’re going to make sure that they give viewers plenty of lead-up. Beyond that, it’s also pretty clear that this would help the showrunners figure out precisely where they want this story to go and how they want it to end … if they haven’t figured it out already.
(Let’s go ahead and make this clear — we’re personally of the belief that there have at least been conversations about a season 6 and a potential endgame already. Maybe no definite conversations, but everyone probably realizes that we’re nearing the end of the run at some point soon.)
If nothing else, giving Better Call Saul a season 6 renewal sooner rather than later would offer up another dose of peace of mind and a reason to be excited about what’s coming up. Given that season 5 is not premiering until 2020, we need a few things to grasp onto! This is going to be a long, difficult wait, especially since we’ve still got more than half a year to go.
