Next week on Supergirl season 4 episode 22, you’re going to see the end of the road — or, at least the end of the season. The finale is here and with that, you’re getting more of Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor. The final battle for the season is coming, the setting could be centralized more around Washington DC, and we think that Supergirl is going to make a last-ditch attempt to stop him.
Yet, what’s going to be so interesting about this final episode of the season is going to be getting a chance to properly see stuff hit the fan, and also see Kara turn more to Kara Danvers the reporter than Supergirl the hero. Stopping Lex is going to be a matter of narrative, of publicity and trying in order to find the right way in order for everyone to get on the side against Lex. Even if Supergirl were to stop him otherwise, it could prove fruitless given how much of the country could still be so much against her. You have to think in terms of peace, which is certainly fitting given that the title for this episode is ‘The Quest for Peace.” Obviously, this is an homage to a classic Christopher Reeve movie, but the meaning here is so much more than that.
For a little more insight now, check out the official Supergirl season 4 episode 22 synopsis right now:
LEX LUTHOR RETURNS – Lex Luthor (guest star Jon Cryer) descends upon Washington, DC and summons Lena (Katie McGrath) and Lillian Luthor (guest star Brenda Strong) to the White House. Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) realizes she has one last chance to stop Lex and turns to the power of the press to help her. Jesse Warn directed the episode with story by Robert Rovner & Jessica Queller and teleplay by Rob Wright & Derek Simon (#422). Original airdate 5/19/2019.
This episode is going to bring you all sorts of action and drama, with the Luthor family reunion likely serving as a good source for the latter. Then, there’s also this other question here worth thinking about: Will there be some sort of enormous cliffhanger? One of the things that Supergirl has done so well the past three seasons is trying to find a way to set the stage for what’s next, whether it be the arrival of Mon-El at the end of season 1, the tease about the Worldkillers in season 2, or the arrival of Red Daughter at the end of season 3. We’ve got a feeling that there is something smart and crafty cooked up, something that could pave the way for the future.
