Outlander notes: Season 5 filming reflection; a Sophie Skelton DVD extra

Outlander season 4

Welcome to this fine Saturday edition of Outlander notes! As is often the case here, we’ve got a number of things we’d like to break down, and it begins with a little bit of conversation in regards to season 5 filming and where we are at the moment.

By our estimation, Friday marked the end of week five of production in Scotland, and at least one of the more active ones that we’ve had so far in production. The crew and team have done an increasingly better job of shielding most of filming from watchful eyes, which is important to avoid spoilers, but also to probably keep production moving along at a reasonably steady pace.

The biggest filming news this week was that Duncan Lacroix and the Regulators were in action to some degree, and we imagine for Duncan at this point, filming the show is quite the treat. Because of him being aged up so much in order to play Murtagh, he likely spends more time in the makeup chair than just about anyone! In real life, Lacroix is only 47 years old — hardly so old as to sport so much white hair in his beard! Murtagh’s an exciting proposition in season 5, largely because he is one of the few great unknowns Outlander has; we have an idea as to where his story could be going based on the direction of the books, but since he’s already dead in the books, precisely how he fits in remains unclear.

New Sophie Skelton DVD featurette

In preparation for the season 4 launch a little bit later this month (think in terms of May 28 on DVD and Blu-Ray), you can see Sophie Skelton discuss the bond between Brianna and Claire in the video HERE, plus the impact that it had on a fan she previously met. (Richard Rankin is also featured in the clip, though she does most of the talking.) This is going to be one of the featurettes within the upcoming collection, based on what The Outlander Collector is saying in their social-media post. We know already that there’s another thing appealing about the season 4 collection in Outlander Untold, a series of scenes that were filmed especially for the DVD that were never intended to air on the show. These serve as a way to get some fantastic insight on this world and some of the characters who maybe don’t get a lot of screen time, for one reason or another, on the series itself. There’s a lot to attend to with Outlander much of the time!
