Grey’s Anatomy season 16: Greg Germann, Chris Carmack, Jake Borelli promoted
Today, ABC confirmed that Greg Germann (Tom Koracick), Chris Carmack (Andrew “Link” Lincoln), and Jake Borelli (Levi Schmidt) are all going to be series regulars for the upcoming season. We had high hopes that all three actors would continue to be a part of this world — though admittedly, we had our fears with Koracick given how Teddy seems to be more interested in being with Owen at this point. Both Germann and Borelli have been a part of the series the past two seasons, while Carmack joined early on this season. All three of contributed a lot of humor to the show, but we’ve seen different, softer sides to all of them. The writers have done a solid job of giving us a chance to get to know all of them over time, without forcing the issue and allowing the progression to feel somewhat natural.
In a new statement confirming this news (via Deadline), here is what show executive producer Krista Vernoff had to say:
“Chris, Jake, and Greg have been recurring for us as guest stars and have popped as fan favorites … We are excited to continue revealing their characters and we are beyond thrilled to welcome them to the Grey’s Anatomy family.”

Ultimately, one of the more exciting parts of these promotions will be getting to see some more stories perhaps told from their individual point of view. We’ve had a little bit of this with Schmidt already, but with Germann and Carmack we’ve seen more of them as of late in relation to other characters. It’d be nice to learn more about how they live away from the hospital and the way in which they perceive the world. While Link may be fairly easy-going — he takes a lot of life in stride after having cancer at an early age — there does have to still be some things that make him tick in a way we haven’t seen already. Meanwhile, we know already that Koracick uses arrogance as a way to shield some of his sad past and some of the pain he feels as a result of that. Exploring these dimensions will help these characters only be more fully-formed, and we love them very much already.
If you missed the announcement earlier, Grey’s Anatomy was officially renewed for TWO more seasons — we don’t know anything about the status of these actors beyond season 16, but you can read more of the big news from earlier today here.
