Depending on whether or not “How I Met Your Mother” ends after this season, which is a question that has been pretty much on the lips of everyone over the past several weeks, we are probably going to see a proposal happen at some point between Barney and Robin. After all, if the show ends this year, they need to allow themselves enough time between the proposal and the big day that they do not just feel like they are rushing from one level to the next.
With this being said, however, do not expect Barney to get down on one knee at any point in the immediate future. According to a new report from E! News, Neil Patrick Harris’ character is probably going to enjoy dating Robin for at least a few episodes after her relationship goes south later this month before making any sort of move to advance things along further. Once he does propose, there’s even no expectation that Robin will say yes … at least right away. We know that this is a character who often tends to either over-think or over-analyze things, and it would be hardly a shock to see this change especially with something as serious as a proposal.
From here, the wedding planning will at least probably start to begin, but the hopeful thing is that by the middle of the season we are going to find out for sure as to whether or not the cast will be back for another season or not. All we hope is that if they don’t return, showrunners Carter Bays and Craig Thomas have enough time to write a satisfying conclusion. After all, we need to have the “who is the mother?” reveal be one of the greatest in sitcom history.
How do you think Barney’s second proposal should go? If you want to take a first look at Monday night’s new episode, all you have to do is visit the story that is up over at the link here.
