Saturday Night Live promo: Can Kate McKinnon impress Emma Thompson?

In this promo, you can see Kate McKinnon do everything that she can in order to impress Thompson, including making the green room into a bona fide paradise. It’s beautiful, it contains many a thing that Emma would love, and apparently, she has the Jonas Brothers on board for them to sing virtually everything that Emma could possibly want. McKinnon claims that she views Emma as one of her personal idols, so we have to imagine that there is a certain degree of wish fulfillment for her.
As for what we’re going to see on the upcoming episode, what makes this so fun is just how much of an unknown Thompson is. She feels like one of those performers who, for the better part of her career, she’s been angling for a chance like this and she’s never quite had it. Now, she has that very opportunity and it’s a chance for her to totally run wild in the game and do a lot of totally-crazy stuff. Think in terms of crazy characters, or just opportunities to flex a few different acting muscles than she typically does.
In the end, the #1 thing that we’re hoping for here is fun — plenty of fun. The bar has been set high — this past episode with Adam Sandler was fantastic! What is probably good about Thompson as host is that she brings with her such a different energy. She’s not a traditional comedian or a former cast member; with Adam, you had a good feeling as to precisely what he was going to bring to the show. However, we do think that there is something fun in the unpredictability. We don’t know what is going to happen and that certainly brings a smile to our face.
The one thing that really doesn’t? The fact that this was the second-to-last episode of the entire season. There’s only one more show following this and, in the end, you have to hope that we’re ending things here with a bang and not just a tiny whimper.
