Game of Thrones season 8 episode 5 photos: Cersei, Jon prepare
At the moment, it feels clear that much of the action is being fixed entirely on King’s Landing, which is in many ways both good and bad. While we understand the point of shrinking down the final season to just the most integral parts of the Seven Kingdoms, there is a part of us that misses when the show was a little bit more expansive and we got to see some other parts of the world and what was going on with some of them. Now, we’re focus mostly on just a handful of key places, and almost all of Sunday’s episode should be either set at sea or outside/within King’s Landing as everyone does their best to prepare for war.
Is there really another option at this point? It’s hard to imagine it.
For Cersei (pictured above), she’s ignited the fire by executing Missandei right in front of Daenerys, Grey Worm, and many others. Tyrion already tried to talk some sense into her, but it’s certainly clear at the moment that there is no way in which to do that. The only way, seemingly, to get into to thwart Cersei is by going through King’s Landing itself — and, in doing so, you risk the lives of thousands of innocent people. How much do you value the Iron Throne? What are you willing to give up in order to “be a ruler”? These are the questions that Daenerys has to wonder for herself as we get closer to the series finale.

For Jon and some of Daenerys’ close advisers, they may be thinking in terms of how best to relay information to their Queen. We don’t foresee that anyone here wants to have another attack on their hands, but they’re somewhat limited just in terms of what they can do and also how they can effectively do it. Unless they’re willing to turn on Daenerys, and we’re not sure that they are, they may to just need to move forward with her plans … though we do think the Aegon Targeryan reveal does in fact change things. As a matter of fact, don’t be surprised if the final two episodes, in some way, revolve around people like Sansa and Varys trying to scheme their way to get Jon on the throne, really by any means necessary. He may not want it, but it may be the right move for King’s Landing and beyond if there is no other viable option.
At the moment, though, we’re taking this photo of Jon, Davos, and Tyrion for what it is — the three of them standing before their army outside of King’s Landing. We’ll see what comes out from here.
