The Flash season 5 episode 22 (finale) spoilers: ‘Legacy,’ Barry vs. Eobard

Flash season 4

Next week on The Flash season 5 episode 22, otherwise known as the big finale, it’s all coming to a head. Through “Legacy,” we’re going to have a chance to witness an epic showdown to end all showdowns with Barry Allen squaring off with Eobard Thawne. It’s The Flash vs. the Reverse Flash in a battle in order to potentially save time and saved lives.

It was really quite clever the way in which the writers threaded everything this season — because of the hype around Cicada, they were able to mask the return of the Reverse Flash until he turned up at the end of the first part of the season. While it was fair to assume that he would return to action at some point, it was mostly a question or when/how … and clearly, the show’s started to figure all of that out now and we’re gearing up for an epic, intense final chapter that should set the stage in a big way for whatever is coming up next.

Want some more news now about that very thing? Then take a look at the official The Flash season 5 episode 22 synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below:

BARRY FACES OFF WITH REVERSE FLASH – Barry (Grant Gustin) faces off with his oldest, and most formidable nemesis, Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh). Gregory Smith directed the episode with story by Lauren Certo and teleplay by Todd Helbing & Eric Wallace (#522). Original airdate 5/14/2019.

Obviously, The CW isn’t giving away as much here as they do for some of their other episodes of the show, but there is one word here in particular that should mean something to a lot of people out there: “Legacy.” This episode’s title holds a great deal of meaning to the central theme of this whole season — what sort of world does Barry want to leave to the future generation? We’re obviously talking about Nora here, or at least some variation of Nora. One of the other ideas we’ve entertained here is the fact that in stopping Cicada and then having Crisis on Infinite Earths moved up, maybe things become different for Barry Allen to the point where Nora doesn’t exit in the way she does now. Maybe she’s born earlier, or maybe she is one of two twins! There are a lot of different ways that the story can progress forward, based of course on whatever the writers decide from here. Because we already know that The Flash is coming back for more, this is obviously something that they’ve had a good bit of time to think about over the past several weeks.

Given the way that past seasons of this show have concluded, we do certainly think that there’s a chance we’ll either get A) some sort of cliffhanger or B) at least some sort of idea as to what a season 6 could look like. Go ahead and be prepared for that!
