‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 9 spoilers: Ellen Pompeo on hopes for Meredith, Derek

Are we going to see some sort of evolution in our primary “Grey’s Anatomy” relationship? Based on what we are hearing now, it’s possible. Even though Meredith and Derek have been together for some time now, and they are even married, you still get a sense from time to time that Cristina is still the person that she chooses to go to for the vast majority of her problems.

So is this finally going to change this season? Based on what Ellen Pompeo is saying now to TVLine, it certainly does feel like it:

“It’s not very realistic that a married woman would have her best friend be her No. 1 before her husband … I guess if you’re 20. But for a grown woman, your No. 1 person should be your husband — or what’s the point of getting married? Your significant other should be your significant other, so hopefully we’ll transition into that.”

So when will we really see this sort of change occur? There is no confirmation on that (just as there is no real confirmation on this happening at all); however, were we to guess, we would assume that this is going to be coming up at some point even around or after the Meredith-and-Cristina-focused episode of the show that is going to air presumably on November 1. Before this, we are going to have an episode all about humor as well as one that should show us the continuation of life after the plane crash a week from Thursday. Unfortunately, we are going to be waiting a while thanks to the Vice-Presidential debate happening on Thursday night.

Do you think we should see Meredith and Derek grow a little closer this season? Be sure to share some more of your thoughts below!
