The upcoming SWAT season 2 finale airing on May 16 is entitled “Kangaroo” and on the surface, you may laugh over the name. That’s before you realize that the subject matter is overall so much darker than this. Think of this as a way to veer you way off-course.
Over the course of this season, we’ve seen Hondo and his team take on all sorts of threats, whether it be in everyday neighborhoods or at public places. We’ve also witnessed some of the harsh elements that go along with the job, including dealing with a number of long hours and the physical and mental toll that goes along with it. This is not an occupation for the faint of heart, and some of the worst stuff may still be yet to come. Within this finale, for example, a militant group is going to do what they can to live stream public executions — basically, some of the most barbaric stuff possible. It’s about shaming these people, asserting power, and then also trying to find a way to traumatize your audience in the process. It’s a lot to try and mix into a given hour of story and we’re curious to see exactly what transpires … or if there is any sort of epic cliffhanger at the end of it that pays the way for a season 3.
Below, CarterMatt has the official SWAT season 2 finale synopsis with a little bit more news all about what’s been coming up:
“Kangaroo” – The SWAT team goes in pursuit again of the militant group The Emancipators, when the criminals hold a live stream kangaroo court to publicly execute city politicians. Also, Hondo fights to lift Darryl’s spirits; Deacon feels unworthy as he prepares to receive one of the LAPD’s highest honors; and Street catches a break in the search for his missing parolee mother, on the second season finale of S.W.A.T., Thursday, May 16 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Sherilyn Fenn returns as Karen Street, Jim Street’s mother.
Street’s mother will appear in this episode, so maybe that is somewhat of an encouraging sign that he will find her? Meanwhile, we’re going to see Hondo just trying to continue his juggling act and seeing exactly what both his and Darryl’s future will look like.
Make no mistake — this should be an eventful finale, one that manages to surprise with a number of different twists and turns. We’re excited to see this, mostly because we feel like there’s a good chance at a season 3 and the writers probably took that as a dare to come up with some of the most dramatic, awesome stuff that they possibly could. By the end of this finale, we don’t want things to be exactly the same as they’ve been.
