NCIS season 16 photo: What has Mark Harmon’s Gibbs distraught?
How often is it that you see Mark Harmon’s character dealing with this sort of pain, at least in a way that it’s written all over his face? CBS certainly does not have a tendency to release many promotional photos of Gibbs looking quite like this, and it probably does represent where he is at this point in the season, after everything that he has gone through. This is a guy who has a way of thinking that has been fundamentally changed in so many ways. He’s determined that one of his long-standing rules is currently invalid and beyond just that, he’s been dealing with some surprising news about what happened to a former fiancee.
Gibbs isn’t someone who often expresses grief or sadness, but he’s now at a point where he may have to find a way in order for it to happen.

The photo above is actually coming from the upcoming 23rd episode of the season entitled “Lost Time,” and this features Gibbs in the midst of what’s going to be a casual meeting with Doctor Grace Confalone. In the midst of what he’s going through — and following a rather surprising breakdown during a case — he’s going to go to her for a little bit of advice. Maybe some of this will be related to the case, but we imagine that at least a slice of it will be related to how he’s doing.
(Of course, there absolutely does remain a part of us that is hoping that one of the conversation subjects will be Ziva, given the clue that Bishop dropped on him during “Perennial.” We just don’t have a whole lot of evidence just yet that Gibbs has picked up on that, even though we like to think that he would have. Every impression we’ve got is that Gibbs is a pretty smart cookie and he would understand when some important information is passed down to him, even when it’s an inference or a mere suggestion. Something has to feel strange about it, right?)
