NBC’s ‘The Office’ season 9 spoilers: First look at Stephen Colbert’s debut
With “The Office” being in its ninth season, you have to at least give the show some credit for trying to go out with a little bit of excitement. While we may hate the fact that Jim has suddenly been turned into a liar completely out of the blue, we do love the fact that Stephen Colbert is going to be guest-starring on an upcoming episode as a member of the popular singing group Here Comes Treble that Andy Bernard performed with at Cornell.
NBC has just released the official synopsis for the episode, and it does seem like there is good reason that the words “Treble” and “Trouble” are in this sense pretty interchangeable:
“It’s Halloween in the office and Andy (Ed Helms) invites his college a cappella group to perform, which leads to a confrontation with his frenemy Broccoli Rob (guest star Stephen Colbert). Meanwhile, Dwight (Rainn Wilson) finds evidence that a madman is loose in the office and tries to track him down, and the first meeting of Jim’s (John Krasinski) new job causes a fight with Pam.”
We have seen some pretty memorable Halloween-related episodes on the show before, so with this in mind, we already imagine that the writers have their work cut out for them. We love the fact that a press release actually uses the word “frenemy” in a serious way, and it’s also pretty entertaining that Andy is once again going to be put in his place by someone with a name more ridiculous than that of his group.
We’ve really gotten to the point now with this show that we are not going to make any sort of grand declarations or hopes that the episode changes the world; we just hope that it is funny, and that Colbert’s great talent (and singing voice, for that matter) are not wasted.
