Big Little Lies season 2 premiere date, teaser released by HBO

Big Little Lies

On the other side of Game of Thrones season 8 at HBO, know this — there are some big things coming via Big Little Lies season 2.

With that in mind, why not go ahead and share some of the good news — Sunday, June 9 is the start date for the latest chapter of the HBO series, which is bringing back the majority of its top-tier talent from season 1. This season will pick up on the other side of Perry’s murder, but we’re going to see many of these main characters struggle to move forward. As a matter of fact, there’s a gossipy new name out there for many of them — the Monterrey 5. They’re going to witness the strange aftereffects that a reputation and a small community can have on someone.

The most notable arrival for season 2 is Meryl Streep, and she will be in turn the person who causes the most trouble. After all, she is playing Perry’s mother Mary Louise, a woman who will be looking for answers as to what happened to her son. What she’s going to be met with is a great deal of resistance from some of the women, and she’s going to have a lot of judgment towards them in general.

Big Little Lies season 2 is going to premiere with some sky-high expectations — what else did you expect coming off of a fantastic season 1? The primary challenge this time around is seeing whether or not the story can still shine beyond the original source material, and if there’s really a reason to justify more in the first place. This is the struggle with some limited series deciding, all of a sudden, that they want to be something more. There are some shows that really should stay in their original form and not try to stretch themselves into something more. We don’t want to be like Mary Louise and hold any judgment for what the story is before we have an actual chance to see it.

One major change for season 2

Well, let’s just say that it comes via the Emmys. Because of when Big Little Lies is set to premiere on HBO, it’s not going to be eligible for the 2019 awards this summer. Beyond just that, it’s no longer going to be eligible for the Limited Series category, given that the second season is featuring the same group of characters and a continuous story from season 1. That may not matter to some, but it does to all awards junkies who want to see Reese Witherspoon and company collect some more gold.
