Blue Bloods season 9 episode 19 promo: Frank, Eddie’s mom, & fun

There are a lot of things to be excited about in regards to Blue Bloods season 9 episode 19, but one of the primary ones is surprisingly fun. Christine Ebersole is going to be heading back to the CBS show as Eddie’s mom, and for the first time she’s going to have a chance to meet Frank Reagan.

One of the things that we’ve certainly come to know about Frank is that he’s pretty straight-laced and that he loves routine. Other than a few cops, he basically talks with the same advisers and family members every day. We don’t get the sense that he is used to speaking with someone like Eddie’s mom, who is a big flightier and has now probably goofing on the guy — you get a small sense of that in the promo and it totally takes him aback. There are not many opportunities that you see Frank shocked by anything, and we really want to see at least one other episode where he’s forced to spend at least 10-15 minutes with her in a room. Imagine the comedy! Also, we think that Frank could use some friends with different viewpoints, and Eddie’s mom certainly has a different one than her daughter.

If the Blue Bloods writers do the right thing, we’ll probably see Ebersole at least back one more time — doesn’t she have to be at the wedding? We don’t really have too many other people from the Eddie side of things that it feels imperative that we get some good representation on her end for the big celebration — which, for the record, is slated to be for the upcoming finale.

What else is there to look forward to?

From a comedy standpoint, we’re certainly not mad that CBS chose to make the promo into Eddie’s mom and Frank meeting. When it comes to powerful story arcs, we are a little bit taken aback that they didn’t go more for Lou Diamond Phillips coming back as Luis Delgado given the history that this character and Danny have at this point. He’s the closest thing that this season’s got to a genuine Big Bad — someone who has history with Donnie Wahlberg’s character and someone who should very well be behind bars.

Yet, what makes things even more exciting coming into this episode for these two characters is simply knowing that they’re actually going to work together. Delgado’s going to realize after a tragic murder in his own life that working with Danny is (shockingly) the best option for him.
