Flakefleet Primary School Choir gets Golden Buzzer on Britain’s Got Talent

BGT

Tonight, the Britain’s Got Talent premiere brought you the first Golden Buzzer of the season — and we were super excited to see what sort of talent it was going to be. Would it be a singer, a danger, or a shocking variety act? The possibilities were endless!

What we didn’t see tonight was the Golden Buzzer from David Walliams being handed down to Flakefleet Primary School Choir, a group that actually seemed to move David Walliams to tears after their quirky, fun audition. They weren’t necessarily the best singers that we’ve ever seen, but there was just so much joy and happiness from start to finish.

Here’s the thing — we know that there are going to be a ton of people out there complaining about how “bad” they were and how their vocals weren’t in sync or the like. Yet, this isn’t really the point of what this act was. We don’t think their appeal is based on talent. Instead, this is a case of an act getting some love based more on the feeling they produced in the moment — kids being happy and using their imagination. It’s a feeling that more of us need to tap into in this era that is filled with so much happiness. There are few places within the world where there is so much joy and so much purity, and that’s why they are going to be on the live shows.

Beyond that, we also think that this is why they are going to have some sort of audience moving forward. There are going to be people who love and appreciate that Britain’s Got Talent decided to embrace so much passion from young people and something that we haven’t quite had a chance to see at any other point in the show.

We know that David Walliams does have a tendency to deliver some really hokey, cheesy Golden Buzzer picks — yet, this is almost the opposite of that. This really felt like he was going for quite possibly the purest thing ever, and that was an act that pulled on the heartstrings and brought him back to being a kid himself.

Regardless of what you think about Flakefleet as talent, can we all agree at the moment that this teacher is one of the best out there? It really felt like he let his kids dress up as whatever they wanted so that they could go out there and have a great time. There was a little bit more of order here, but also a LOT of chaos.
