Good Trouble season 2: What you need to know following tonight’s finale

Following tonight’s season 1 finale, what’s important to know in regards to a Good Trouble season 2? There are a number of things that you could focus on, but the most important thing is simply this: That it will be back for another season. That’s a sure thing. Freeform officially announced a renewal some time back, and since that time the cast and crew have been hard at work making sure that these episodes are good to go.

Not only that, but they’ve already even got a premiere date — Tuesday, June 18! You can see more on that below along with the already-released key art. It’s super-rare that a show has a premiere date for another season prior to the current one ending, but it’s also pretty rare for a show to have such a short hiatus between seasons in the first place.

Why is Good Trouble doing this? Well, a big part of it may have to do with the oh-so-simple fact that for networks with a young viewer-base, you want to hand down as many new episodes as possible within the first couple of years to hook them since there are so many networks marketing to the same group of people. You don’t want to run the risk of your viewers losing interest or moving on to other things, so you’re better off getting them hooked early. Also, Good Trouble has so many interior sets that it can churn out new episodes at a pretty steady pace, at least in comparison to some other cable shows that are out there.

One of the larger questions we’re left to wonder now is whether or not season 2 is going to lead to a season 3? The first season averaged a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and a solid 350,000 viewers — a far cry from what The Fosters was getting during its run. It does have a sizable DVR/streaming audience, and it’s going to need some of those viewers to continue to come out so that it can have a future. Airing season 2 in the summer, a time when younger viewers are out of school or done with college for the semester, may help.

We imagine that more news on Good Trouble season 2 will come in the weeks ahead — for now, we want to see Callie and Mariana continue their journeys in the right direction. There are some obvious comparisons that can be made between this show and Silicon Valley that way. Both shows revolve around underdogs that haven’t made it over the hump. You want them to be successful, but you also don’t want it to happen too quickly. It’s mostly about that journey and getting you from point A to point B that we all enjoy being a part of.
