Outlander season 5: Sam Heughan makes his return to Scotland

In a new post on his Instagram Stories, the man behind Jamie Fraser made it clear that he is back in Scotland — and back around the show’s offices, no less! This comes not too long after Caitriona Balfe posted some footage of her own visiting some of the pre-made sets, and after we’ve seen some evidence that some other cast members are already back in the UK, preparing for the start of production.
With Sam there, you can feel all the more confident that we’re going to see cameras rolling pretty soon in Scotland — or if nothing else, the very first table read! Obviously, Sam’s presence is essential to the start of production for multiple reasons. He’s an integral part of the story as Jamie Fraser, he and Balfe help to really set the tone on set as the two leads, and the two of them are also producers for the upcoming season! They’re going to have more say in the direction of the story, which comes in part as a reward for all of their efforts working to make this show successful. They’ve been incredible ambassadors to the series, in between traveling the world, doing interviews, and putting their heart and soul into their jobs. This is one of the best ways for the production of the show to try and pay it forward, and it’s something that we certainly expect to continue moving into season 6 — even if filming for that’s probably not happening for at least a year, if not longer. (Consider that a story for 2020…)
Outlander season 5 is obviously the top story now. Once filming starts and we’ve got some great stuff to report on, then we can begin to express more confidence as to when it could be coming back on the air … with the operative word there being could. There is no guarantee that we will see any footage this year, but it will certainly be worth the wait. Give how good Sam and the rest of the cast are at giving little tidbits here and there (at least when they can — Starz and production are mighty strict about stuff these days), we’re sure that when filming begins, more info will start to trickle out.
