Madam Secretary season 5 episode 18 preview: Is Elizabeth ready for what’s ahead?

Ready

Madam Secretary season 5 episode 18 carries with it the title of “Ready,” and it’s fair to say that we are already ready for everything over the final three episodes of the season. Through these installments, you are going to have a chance to see Elizabeth make some big choices when it comes to her Presidential campaign — including making some sort of initial announcement! We’re not sure that this will come until the finale, but think of what’s happening at the moment as laying down some important building blocks. At the moment, Madam Secretary is laying down a solid foundation, one that could be setting the stage for a metaphorical grand opening down the line. Season 6 could be all about a Presidential campaign … provided of course we have a chance to see it.

Of course, we could kick off a #RenewMadamSecretary campaign further in this piece, but we’ve already touched on that a little bit and we may not know a firm decision until we get around to May. Let’s just say that if you want to see the show stick around, be sure to keep watching it live! That is the #1 way to ensure that the adventures of Elizabeth McCord to stick around … and why would you want to stop the journey when it’s getting so good?

Let’s shift back for a moment to Madam Secretary season 5 episode 18; after all, we’ve got the official synopsis below with other scoop on what’s ahead:

Ready” – A NATO ally carries out a state-sponsored assassination attempt against one of its own citizens, who is also a U.S. resident and old friend of Elizabeth’s. Also, Alison starts dating the son of one of Elizabeth’s political rivals, on MADAM SECRETARY, Sunday, March 31 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Throughout this episode, we imagine that the assassination attempt will be center stage — as it very well should be. This is someone who Elizabeth cares about and when there’s a personal angle to an international crisis, that only spikes the story to another level. Of course, we do think that the drama would be on another level regardless, but this is just going to be raising the stakes and moving it higher on the “drop your jaws” pecking order.

As for what’s happening with Alison and her personal life, there’s one fundamental word that we can use to describe it: Awkward. Yet, it may actually be a good way to extend the olive branch of civility a little bit. It could encourage a campaign, if this rival is running for President, to be more about respectful discourse than people shouting and spouting off at each other. That sort of respectability is something that is fairly rare within the political world. (We just don’t want to see Alison’s heart smashed, mostly because of the fact that it’s happened SO many times before with various members of the McCord family.)
