Last Man Standing season 7 episode 20 return date hopes on Fox
Let’s kick things off here by getting some of the sad news out of the way: You’re going to be waiting for a good while to see it. Like some Thursday night shows including Gotham and The Orville, Fox is about to embark on a surprisingly-long hiatus that is going to stretch from the end of March through most of April. The earliest, in fact, you could see a new episode of Last Man Standing on the air is Friday, April 19. (Update: That has been confirmed.) There are press releases already out there for all the weeks before than and in those, it is indicated that there are repeats coming up. Is this a bummer? Sure, but it’s understandable for a couple of different reasons.
1. Fox wants to air some episodes in May – That’s fairly standard for ANY broadcast network. Sweeps are a time in which networks want to make the most of the opportunities given to them and because of that, Fox of course wants one of their biggest hits on the air! Even though a long hiatus may convince some people to think that the season is already over, rest assured that it’s not and there is a little bit more that is coming up down the line. Three more episodes, in fact. One of these is the landmark 150th episode of the show; another, of course, is the finale — most likely not the series finale, but a finale episode nonetheless.

2. They gotta give the team time to get these episodes together! While it may take less time to produce a sitcom than a single-camera comedy or drama (i.e. the ones not filmed in front of a live audience), it still takes longer than a week to get an episode together in between the writing, filming, editing, prep work, and anything/everything in between. Sometimes, you need a few breaks in order to ensure that the show can stay ahead of the airing schedule.
The good news is this: Filming for the season is already done! There’s still work to do behind the scenes, but the next order of business for us as viewers is to kick back, relax, and enjoy the fruits of the cast and crew’s labor. Then, eagerly await the news of a season 8 that is almost certainly coming up. (Unfortunately, because we are still so far away from the show’s return, there isn’t a whole lot of other info to hand out — that means no synopsis, or teases as to what could be coming up next for the show.)
